The Hobbitts PRESEAR Page

Hello, Welcome to
The Hobbitts presear page
The Obscure Monks

This page is dedicated to new players, old players,  or guests who are going to be spending time in pre~searing  Ascalon.

The tutorials, links, tips, tricks, etc, are in place to serve as a tool to better hone your skills and effectiveness in obtaining your title, or just getting to know the environment better.
We are a " Permapre friendly" guild of mostly monks. Some of whom are going for the Legendary Defender of Ascalon title (LDOA). You are not required to remain in pre, or go for the title, or even have a monk.  Of course, we hope and encourage that you give it a try. At some point, you will be required to make a regulation Monk if you ever wish to become an officer.

Our Alliance of guilds has something for everyone....Farming, PvP, PvE,GvG, AB, Titles, Cartography,
whatever your interest be,  we have it for ya  !!

This is a small, helpfull, mature, and vastly diverse group, and it is great that you have the opportunity to game with us!

If you have any questions regarding pre~searing or the LDOA title, CONTACT "The Hobbitt"
I will be more then happy to help out wherever I can.
ENJOY  and above all  HAVE FUN !!!

The 2 most asked questions in Pre are.....
How do I tame a bear  and  How do I death level ?
I have included below, 2 short movies on how to do those.
Hope it helps ya  :)
Taming a bear in pre.
The morning came with a clear blue sky
Little did we know, many here were about to die,
Things went on as they normally do
People talked, laughed, and the sky was still blue.
The Charr fought on, but we were safe
By our loving wall, protected from thier hate.
Merry laughter, rings out over the din
Most were certain, that we would win
A piercing song sings over the breeze
But it stops short, and a little girl screams
The sky turns dark, the last days are near.
Cries fill the streets, as joy becomes fear.
from the Charr alters, fire rains down,
Its flame engulfing entire towns,
The grass quickly catches,
And whole forests become ashes.
Ascalon falls, hope is nowhere near,
But, we still fight on, without any fear.
Where Oh where are our heroes now...
for soon, to the Charr we must bow
But wait, we are not sunk......
from yonder hill.....Comes a MONK !!!
With his wonderous staff and mystical spells
He will send those Charr, straight off to hell.

Death Leveling
Obscure Monks 1st LDOA....3/12/09

Leveling in Pre

Pre Sear Levelin triks

OK   a lot of folks have been askin for a "guide" of some sort to help them
level up in pre   without actually doing the quests.

If  you are going for the LdoA title, you will need the quest exp for when you
reach 19. Thats when it takes the longest to get exp from the Charr and its much
easier to do quests at that point and do much less death leveling, thus saving tons
of time

Ok  here we go.......

I will assume here that we have a new toon,....lvl 1    pref. a monk  :-)

You can do only the quest that  must be done to get basic skills,   like  the npc
outside Ascalon that gives you the scale quest..that must be done to get the first
set of skills as reward. Most others will give you skills when they give you the
quests. Take the skills,    then abandon the quest itself.

Now,   after you do that first quest,    do NOT accept rewards for any other quest
unless your just tryin to lvl up  to leave Pre.Thats done differently.

You can do all the secondary profession quest...and choose the one you want, just dont go back for the reward when completed. Wait till your 19 to get rewards. Do NOT abandon those, leave them completed in your log.

In my opinion, you CAN take the Second profession early on and accept reward  so you can put Attribute points into it.

Go to Abbey   and get skills from the Monk there.....do not do quests   just take the
skillz and abandon the quests(2)
OR....  go wherever you need to go for your professions skills, same rule applys,
take skills,   abandon quest

Level 1 thru 3 ....    Kill  Kill  Kill......Scale, Grawl, anything you can....

At  level 3   go kill bears   till your lvl 5. At 3   you get 100xp  for each bear,
at 4   you get 80 etc etc.   Once you hit 5   your done with bears  :-)

Now....go to Ascalon,   go up the stairs at end of town, then the second set of stairs...
Speak with Rurik  and get the quest   "Charr at the Gate".  All the Charr there are
lvl 5  and you get all the xp from all the kills.
At first try to stay just out of Ruriks aggro, not so close you take to much
damage from Charr, later you can melee all ya want. The Monk does a fair job of healing you.
DO NOT SPEAK to Rurik.

Map back to town  and abandon that quest.  Yes,  I said abandon it.
Now   go back to Rurik  and get it again...    and repeat as often as you wish,
abandon every time.Do  the Charr at the gate till your at least lvl 9 .

Now   this can get boring after about a dozen or so runs,   sooo  to
break it up, do the Bandit quest at same time and Kill the Bull in the water  on the
way up to Gate. The Bull ( lvl 5 ) is for a Mesmer quest  and will always be there unless
you do that quest.Which of course your not gonna do if your goin for title :-)

You can get the Bandit Raid quest at top of the stairs in Ascalon. If you DO NOT take
the chest to Devonna,   you can  do this over and over,  without gettin the quest
again,no need to abandon it.Just leave the chest alone  :-)

At lvl 9 , its time to partner up with another player and kill the Charr in the Northlands.
You can do the Charr Bosses till your 15 or 16, then its time to setup death levelin.

Of course, if you can find a kind soul to take you into the Northlands with them,
You can go a bit earlier then lvl 9.

I hope this helps some folks  :-)
